Steinway Artist Wayne Weng’s playing has been described as "vibrant and immensely musical,"with "delicacy amounting to almost reverence through gossamer touch" (Wiltshire Gazette & Herald). His "ability to modulate the piano’s sound, coupled with his great ear, easily gave him an edge" (Sioux City Journal) in winning first prize at the 2013 Iowa International Piano

Competition. As a soloist and collaborator, Wayne Weng has performed across North America, Europe, and Asia. His performances have been featured on radio stations such as WFMT Chicago, WQXR New York, CBC Radio, and Seattle King FM.


 

Wayne Weng serves on the faculty of UBC School of Music, where he teaches piano and chamber music. His private studio was named a Steinway Select School in 2021. He co-founded the Vancouver Piano Sessions. He holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music (BMus, Performer’s Certificate), Mannes College of Music (MMus), Guildhall School of Music (MMus with Distinction), Yale University (AD), and CUNY Graduate Center (DMA). He has received grants from The Solti Foundation and the British Columbia Arts Council.

Roland Gjernes

 

Originally from Surrey, BC, Roland Gjernes is celebrated for his expressive and lyrical playing style. Currently based in Phoenix, Arizona, Roland is principal cellist of the West Valley Symphony. His career as a freelance musician has taken him across the globe, including performances with Lincoln Center Stage and the North American tour of the Broadway hit musical, Hamilton, from 2018 to 2023. 

 

Roland performs regularly with The Phoenix Symphony, and Candlelight concerts. In addition to his live performances, Roland maintains an active recording career, with credits spanning films, television, and notably the video game, Wildmender. In 2025 he released his debut album, Beyond All Mountains Steep, in collaboration with the composer, Andrés Soto.

 

As a soloist, he’s performed with ensembles such as the Semiahmoo String Orchestra, Manhattan School of Music Wind Ensemble, the University of Ottawa Orchestra, and in 2015 had the great pleasure of performing with the Fraser Valley Symphony once before.

Roland holds a Master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Philippe Muller, and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Ottawa under the guidance of Paul Marleyn. He plays on a gorgeous cello made by Stefan Valcuha.

Nicholas Shih-Pogrebnoy made his solo orchestral debut at the age of 9 in a sold-out, high-capacity concert hall in his hometown of Vancouver, BC, Canada, performing Bach’s Violin Concerto. He began his violin studies at age 7 with Professor Anne Shih at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz and has since developed an extensive repertoire covering many of the major works for violin. In 2025, Nicholas was the youngest finalist and medalist at the One Song International Violin Competition in Taipei, Taiwan, earning a $10,000 USD award. He also received the Grand Prize at the Gloria Artis International Competition, which included invitations to perform at the prestigious Gala Concert in Vienna, Austria. Nicholas has performed in concerts across Canada, the USA, Taiwan, Italy, Germany, Australia, and Singapore. He is also a skilled pianist and was featured in Baylor University’s “12 Days of Christmas” video production in 2021. Most recently, he performed on piano for the Celebration of Giving event at the Ferrell Center in Texas, delighting a large and enthusiastic audience. His violin repertoire includes 22 violin concertos by composers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Glazunov, Bartók, Paganini, Kabalevsky, Prokofiev, Bruch, Shostakovich, Mendelssohn, and Wieniawski. He has also performed major violin sonatas by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Ravel, Debussy, Bartók, and Enescu; all 6 Ysaÿe Solo Sonatas; 24 Paganini Caprices; 5 Bach Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin; and numerous virtuosic showpieces including Chausson’s Poème, Ravel’s Tzigane, Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen, Waxman’s Carmen Fantasy, Ysaÿe’s Caprice d’après l’Étude en forme de valse (after Saint-Saëns), and Wieniawski’s Polonaises and Variations on an Original Theme. He has been featured in multiple newspapers, radio, and television broadcasts across North America, Asia, and Europe since an early age. Nicholas was the youngest violinist to be invited as a soloist on full scholarship to the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival in Italy, performing with the Mainzer Virtuosi Ensemble, and also received a full scholarship to attend Musiktage am Rhein in Germany. His future engagements include performances throughout Canada, the USA, Europe, and Asia. Nicholas is deeply involved in orchestral and chamber music. He has served as concertmaster of ensembles including the Langley Community Music School Orchestra (BC, Canada), Midway Middle School Orchestra, and the Waco Youth Orchestra. He regularly plays chamber music in the USA, Canada, Australia, Italy, and Singapore, and is currently the first violinist of a young and dynamic string quartet that performs for the Waco community. In 2023, he was featured as a soloist with the Gatesville High School Choir at the University Interscholastic League competition. Nicholas plays on a violin by Texas based and world renowned luthier Joseph Nagyvary. He currently resides in Waco, Texas, and when not playing the violin, enjoys experimenting with Italian and Indian cuisine, reading, and playing sports

Patricia Shih

 

Described by her legendary mentor Josef Gingold as “one of the greatest talents that I have ever taught. Her great technique, inborn musicianship, sense of style and virtuosity are unequalled”, Patricia Shih is one of the most unique and outstanding violinists working internationally today. Patricia has also been privileged to study with Rostislav Dubinsky, Sandor Vegh, Denes Zsigmondy and Lise Elson. Patricia’s virtuosity and unrivalled artistry has made her one of the most versatile and extraordinary musicians available to leading classical music groups of several generations. Patricia’s professional achievements reveal the great range of consistently outstanding musical collaborations she has engaged in. She has performed as soloist in some of the world’s great venues including the Carnegie Hall in New York, Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto, Wigmore Hall in London, Benaroya Hall in Seattle, Liszt Akademy Hall in Budapest, and the Roy Thompson in Toronto amongst many others, and has received rave reviews for her magnificent performances often comparing her to some of the great violinists of the past. Patricia’s significant international concert career under the mentorship of the great Rostislav Dubinsky (Borodin Quartet) and on his introduction to his personal manager Mariedi Anders Artists Management, has toured internationally both as recitalist and as soloist with many leading orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic, the Halle Orchestra, the Orchestra Bretagne, the Toronto Symphony, the Mexico National Symphony, the Singapore Symphony and the Polish National Radio Orchestra. Born in Canada, Patricia made her first public debut at the age of 4 performing the Bach Violin Concerto in Bellingham, Washington. At an early age, Patricia won the Grand Prize at both the CIBC National Music Competition in Canada and the Seattle Young Artists Competition in the USA. Patricia also received the highest honour and award amongst all instrumentalists for three consecutive years in the Canadian Music Competition, a feat that was never achieved by anyone since. By the age of 14, Patricia became a pupil of the legendary Josef Gingold at Indiana University. In less than a year, she made a highly acclaimed debut at New York’s Carnegie Hall playing the Wieniawski Concerto No.1, a concert arranged especially for her by Prof. Gingold. Patricia was also the only student chosen by Prof.Gingold to perform for his 75th birthday celebration on national television for the Charles Kuralt Show viewed by millions across America. As the youngest finalist at the age of 15, Patricia received a Special Prize at the International Wieniawski Competition in Poland and was a laureate at the International Kreisler Competition in Vienna. She was also awarded the International Sommerakademie Mozarteum prize in Salzburg, Austria and in her native Canada, was honoured with the prestigious Sylva Gelber Foundation Award for the most outstanding Canadian musician under age 30. In the media, she has been broadcast both on TV and radio innumerable times. Her recordings and videos have also been viewed on the Classic FM Channel in Europe. Patricia is a founding member and 1st violinist of Canada’s foremost Borealis String Quartet, formed in Vancouver, BC and has toured for the past extensively for over two decades in renowned concert halls worldwide. Patricia’s passion of teaching is realized by reaching out to countless number of local school students by coaching individuals, giving masterclasses and working with the school orchestras. She also performs charity concerts for many causes including Children in Need, the Red Cross and Tsunami Relief amongst others. Patricia was recently honoured as a “Distinguished Fellow of BC” for the applauded presentations and lectures given as a Visiting Scholar at Green College@ UBC. The Borealis is endorsed by Pirastro Strings and are ambassadors for the famed string company. On the Biography Channel, “Patricia Shih, a half hour documentary” was aired across North America. In addition, Patricia was on the Top 12 list of influential women in the Arts in Texas. Patricia alternately plays on a 1740 Paolo Antonio Testore made in Milan, a 1767 Ferdinand Gagliano violin made in Naples, and a 1990 Joseph Nagyvary violin. Patricia is currently, Associate Professor of Violin at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
